FSSAI Notifies Revised Vegan Food Logo Specifications : Effective 1 July 2027

FSSAI has notified revised vegan food logo specifications under the Vegan Foods Amendment Regulations, 2026, effective from 1 July 2027.

FSSAI has notified the Food Safety and Standards (Vegan Foods) Amendment Regulations, 2026, revising the logo specifications that approved vegan food packages must carry. The amendment was notified on 21 May 2026, but comes into force only from 1 July 2027, giving Food Business Operators (FBOs) more than a year to transition.

Background

Under the Food Safety and Standards (Vegan Foods) Regulations, 2022, every approved vegan food package is required to carry a specific logo, with dimensions and design elements prescribed under Regulation 4(2)(Read final amendment pdf).This amendment finalises a draft that was first published on 21 December 2022, after due consideration of public objections received.

FBOs engaged in manufacturing, packaging, or selling approved vegan food products in India.

Action Points for FBOs

• Obtain the updated logo artwork/specification sheet reflecting the revised A–I dimensions
• Plan packaging design changes and print-run transitions well ahead of the 1 July 2027 deadline
• Coordinate early with packaging suppliers and design/creative teams, given the extended runway
• Note that this amendment does not affect existing vegan food approvals — only the logo requirement changes
